“President Lincoln’s question is no less a question for the present
generation of Americans. Democracy cannot be sustained without a
shared commitment to certain moral truths about the human person and
human community.” Pope John Paul II, October 1995. “The
condition for the survival of America is to respect every human person,
especially the weakest and most defenseless ones, those as yet unborn.”
Pope John Paul II, September 19, 1987.
Pope John Paul II named Our Lady of Guadalupe as the Queen and Mother of
America. He entrusted to her the “future path of the Church on the
great continent of America.” In January of 1999 at her Basilica in
Mexico City he said,
“The Church must proclaim the Gospel of Life and speak out
with prophetic force against the culture of death. This is our
cry: life with dignity for all . . . . The time has come to banish
once and for all from the Continent every attack against life.”
Please join us in praying the National Conference of Catholic Bishops’
Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe for the intention of a culture of life
and civilization of love and not a culture of death and civilization of
hate. The Novena prayers are contained below.
Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe,
Queen and Mother of America
Each day pray the Invocation for that day, the Refrain and an Our
Father, 3 Hail Marys and a Glory Be.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe, pray for the Church
in America and walk with us in the new millennium of faith.
Invocation Day 1: Mary, Mother of Jesus, hear the prayer
of the Church in America, a people rich in promise, a people much in
need of God's mercy. As you first brought faith to these lands, be
with us in the jubilee of our redemption.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe....
Our
Father..., Hail Mary...(3x), Glory be.....
Invocation Day 2: Mary, Mother of America, hear the
many voices of our land, pleading for the mercy of your son, seeking the
shepherd's voice to lead them home. Hear the praise of your sons
and daughters and bid your son to free us from the scourges of
addiction, selfishness, and want.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe....
Our
Father...., Hail Mary....(3x), Glory be.....
Invocation Day 3: Mary, Mother of Compassion, hear the
prayer of those most in need of God's mercy. Hear the little child
whose belly hungers, the old man with no one to love, the mother tempted
to abandon her child. Pray for them to the author of life, that
the fruit of your womb may save and protect them.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe....
Our Father...., Hail Mary....(3x), Glory be....
Invocation Day 4: Mary, Mother of Conversion, pray to
your son for the virtue of hope. Pray him to free us from doubt and to
give us the courage of the children of God. Pray that the light of the
world may dispel the darkness of our fear, remaking our stony hearts in
the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus your Son.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe....
Our Father...., Hail Mary....(3x), Glory be....
Invocation Day 5: Mary, Mother of all Saints, pray for your
children in America. Pray for those who seek to imitate your
example in humble service to the Gospel of Life and the poorest of the
poor. Pray that your son may lead us from the darkness of sin to
the light of his eternal glory.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe....
Our Father...., Hail Mary....(3x), Glory be....
Invocation Day 6: Mary, Mother of Unity, intercede for the
Church in America, that we may be gathered together to form the one
people of the New Covenant. Mother of the human race,
ask your son to pour out upon us a spirit of compassion and solidarity.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe....
Our Father...., Hail Mary....(3x), Glory be....
Invocation Day 7: Mary, Mother of the Church, help the Church
in these lands to follow your example of sublime love and profound
humility. With you, may we be obedient to the commandment of love,
and give our selves whole heartedly to seeking the glory of Christ and
serving the needs of our brothers and sisters.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe....
Our Father...., Hail Mary....(3x), Glory be....
Invocation Day 8: Mary, Mother of all Christians, hear the
prayers of all who worship the name of your Son, Jesus, our hope and
salvation. Under the protection of your prayers, may the Church in
America enjoy unbroken peace.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe....
Our Father...., Hail Mary....(3x), Glory be....
Invocation Day 9: God of power and mercy, you blessed the
Americas at Tepeyac with the presence of the Virgin Mary of
Guadalupe. By her prayers enable all people to accept each other
as brothers and sisters. Instill justice in our hearts that
your peace may reign in the world. We ask this through our Lord Jesus
Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, one God forever and ever.
Refrain: O Lady of Guadalupe...
Our Father...., Hail Mary....(3x), Glory be....
Total Consecration to the
Immaculate Heart of Mary

St.
Louis de Montfort said, "If then, as is certain, the knowledge and the
kingdom of Jesus Christ are to come in the world, they will be but a
necessary consequence of the knowledge and the kingdom of the most holy
Virgin Mary, who brought Him into the world for the first time, and will
make His second advent full of splendor."
The Second Coming of Christ will be brought through the
mediation of Mary, by the love of the Father, who, through
the Holy Spirit, will renew the earth so that Jesus may reign
as the King of Peace. St. Louis also prophesied that God with
His Holy Mother would form great souls as apostles of the
latter times. He said, "They will know the grandeurs of
the Queen, and will consecrate themselves entirely to her
service as subjects and slaves of love. They shall be the
true apostles of the latter times."
St. Louis' book, True Devotion to Mary, teaches
Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary as a means of
renewing our baptismal promises. By this Total Consecration
we renounce Satan, his pomps and works and permanently
dedicate ourselves to Jesus through Mary giving her our
bodies and souls, our goods and even the merits of our good
works for her disposition according to her will.
This is the most complete and perfect consecration formula
to Our Lady. It is the formula personally made and lived by
Pope John Paul II and recommended by him to us.
